Team

At the series’ fifth race, the Bobby Doyle Summer Classic 5 Mile Run, the team competition was as hot as the blistering summer heat.

The battle upfront was as fierce as ever with Run Newport edging out the Adult Sentinel Striders by just one point to earn their second straight team victory. Finishing in third and fourth with very solid races of their own were the Westerly Track & Athletic Club and Phantom Farms Flyers, respectively. And in fifth place, also by just one point, came the always-steady Women on the Run Barrington.

In the overall standings, Run Newport has retaken the lead over the Adult Sentinel Striders by a margin of 100 points. Women on the Run Barrington hold onto third place, but the Westerly Track & Athletic club has narrowed the gap considerably and is now just 72 points back in fourth. Rounding out the Top 5 are the Phantom Farms Flyers, who have a sizable 500+ point lead over sixth place.

Open Female

In the Open Female category, Julia Fagundes of Run Newport was once again the class of the field, running a huge PR of 30:44 to earn yet another 1000 points. Katharine Walker of the Rhode Warriors had her best race so far this year to finish second in 33:56 while Amanda Hawkins had another strong run to place third in 35:21. Battling it out behind them was fellow Rhode Warrior, Jamie Manzo, and Run Newport’s Alexis Peters, who ran 36:37 and 36:46 to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the overall standings, Alexis Peters maintains her lead over Jamie Manzo, but the gap between them has shrunk to a mere 19 points. Amanda Hawkins of the Gansett Run Club has moved up two spots and now sits in third, just 37 points back from Manzo. Rounding out the Top 5 are Julia Fagundes (fourth) and her Run Newport teammate, Maragret Altes (fifth).

Open Male

In the Open Male category, Christopher Collet of Run Newport ran a blistering 23:43 (4:44 pace!) to come away with his second straight title. Behind him was a pair of RIGP newcomers, Jason Padula of the Adult Sentinel Striders who ran 24:50 to take second and Matthew Walker of the Westerly Track & Athletic Club who ran 26:38 to take third. Rounding out the top 5 were Adult Sentinel Strider teammates (and brothers!), Ken Vinacco (4th | 26:56) and Matthew Vinaccco (5th | 27:08).

In the overall standings, Ken Vinacco not only maintains his lead, but grows it to a whopping 867 points. Christopher Collet makes a nice jump up from fifth to second, but Matthew Vinacco makes an even bigger leap from outside the top 10 to third. Sitting in fourth just 10 points back is Matt Sweeney of the Westerly Track and Athletic Club while Ryan Pagliaro of the Adult Sentinel Striders currently holds fifth.

Masters Female

In the Masters Female category, Women on the Run Barrington’s leading lady, Bretty Ely, once again stole the show, this time earning an impressive age grade of 83.2 for her 29:53 performance. Behind her was a tight battle between two Phantom Farms Flyers teammates with Kim Chula-Maguire edging out Blythe Gould by just 0.3 of an age grade point. Finishing a strong fourth in her first race back from injury was Erica Knighton while Claudia Maiorana of Women on the Run Barrington placed fifth for the third straight race.

In the overall standings, Bretty Ely maintains her perfect score, which now includes 100 bonus points for competing at all five races thus far. Blythe Gould remains solidly in second place while Claudia Maiorana moves up from fifth to third. Also making a big jump up is Kim Chula-Maguire, who went from seventh to fourth. Fellow Run Newport team member, Kyle Marshall, had a strong race to place third in yet another top 5 finish. And closing out the top 5 was Bill Slaney of the Phantom Farms Flyers (4th) who just held off Bob Segal of the Westerly Track & Athletic Club (5th).
