Club Spotlight: Run Newport

Tell us about your club!
The Run Newport team is a bit unique in that it is comprised of runners who participate in two long-standing group runs in Newport: Run Newport’s Tuesday night store run, which was launched by Adam Stadel back in 2015, and the Newport Run & Chug on Thursday.

Who is your club open to?
Our group is truly all- inclusive; we welcome any gender, pace, etc. We even have a walking group for those who aren’t quite up to the 3 or 5 mile group runs or are injured and still want to be involved. The majority of our runners are adults who are somewhat casual, but we do also sometimes attract competitive high school and college runners to the group runs.

When and where do you typically meet to run?
On Tuesdays we meet at 6:30 pm at Run Newport and afterwards get (free!) drinks and hors d’oeuvres at the Brenton Hotel next door. On Thursdays we meet at 6:30 at The Fastnet Pub and then grab drinks there afterwards. There are also often weekend group runs around Newport that include the newer Corral Running Club.

Do you host any other non-running events?
We have holiday-themed runs / after parties and Run Newport puts on an informal Eggnog Mile race every December (which is equally gross and awesome). We also usually put together a very loud and very fun cheer station for various races in Newport including the two half and full marathons, the Newport Beer Run 5k, and the BankNewport 10 Miler.

Aside from the Grand Prix, are there any other races that your club attends/competes in as a team?
We have a trail running team this winter for the Border Patrol Challenge Series!

Does your club support any philanthropic efforts?
A couple of times per year we get together with a local environmental group and do a run/trash pickup.

If someone is interested in joining your club, what is the best way to reach you?
You can contact Run Newport via email (info@runnpt.com), Facebook, or Instagram (@runnewport) or you can reach out to Newport Run and Chug via Facebook or Instagram (@npt_runandchug).
