The Blazin’ Battle Against Brain Cancer 10k is held in memory of Jim Varin, a dedicated Providence firefighter who sadly passed away in 2023 of Glioblastoma, an aggressive and fatal form of brain cancer. The event, which also includes a 5k, supports the RI Brain & Spine Tumor Foundation, and is managed by Rhode Races & Events, a Rhode Island-based event management company. The lollipop-style course begins and ends in Deerfield Park with a gradual climb throughout the first half and a fast downhill finish.
