Club Spotlight: Women on the Run Barrington

Tell us about your club!
Women on the Run was started in January 2023 by Danielle De la Monja and Sara Horvet to create a women-centered running group in the East Bay. Our mission is to create a welcoming and supportive group of women who love to stay active, connect, and run together.
Who is your club open to?
WOTR is open to all adult women. We have a diverse group of both casual and competitive runners including run-walkers, people training to run their first 5K, regular marathoners, and even someone who has run over 100 half-marathons! We also have a large group of people who do triathlons.
When and where do you typically meet to run?
We meet Saturdays at 7 am at Police Cove Park in Barrington. For this run, we break into groups based on pace and distance for an easy, conversational run. We also meet at the Barrington High School track on Wednesdays at 6 am for a track workout. Currently we are running a Winter Track Series where the workout is posted on Saturday for the upcoming Wednesday and tailored to different groups.
Do you host any other non-running events?
Yes! We regularly have speakers visit (physical therapists, pelvic floor specialists, nutritionists, etc.) as well as holiday themed runs and parties. We also do a bi-monthly happy hour. Claudia Maiorana has graciously hosted a pop-up Sunrise Yoga series in the summer.
Aside from the Grand Prix, are there any other races that your club attends/competes in as a team?
No, but we have a shared group calendar for people looking to find races to run together. Expect to see a big group of us at the Newport 10 Miler!
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your club?
Our community is what makes our group! We are lucky to have an amazing group of women who find commonality in running and just jive!
If someone is interested in joining your club, what is the best way to reach you?
Check us out on Facebook! Or email Alice Paul (alicejpaul@gmail.com).
